Socrates was Greek philosopher born in 439 BC. Uptill now he is considered as the founder of all major philosophical thoughts. He is mostly recognized for SOCRATIC METHOD OF REASONING that is based on Questioning and Answering to find the truth. He is also famous for his trial that Athenian regime brought against him.
The major charges against him were impiety and misleading youth. Impiety is described as a religious crime or sort of blasphemy or denouncing religion. Actually Socrates denied the Athenian Gods of the city (a popular belief in that era that Greek cities are guarded by certain gods). The fact is that the idea of such Gods was propagated by the rulers so that they could keep people busy worshiping and admiring such Gods, and forget about challenging or questioning the regime.
The second major charge against Socrates was that he is misleading youth and spoiling their minds. Actually Socrates was compelling youth to think and reason before holding any belief. He taught youth that only logical thinking and reasoning can lead to the truth. Socrates argued that if Athenian Gods were real and they are guarding the cities then why there is so much bloodshed everywhere in Greek.
These were the formal charges against Socrates but he was also called as insane or a person out of his mind. Simply speaking he was declared mad by many.
It may be just a coincidence that all the major personalities who challenge the status quo are charged with same nature of crimes such as impiety, misleading youth, madness, etc.
If we analyse current scenario of Pakistan politics, all corrupt politicians are propagating the same charges against imran khan that Greeks charged Socrates.
PDM backed by some Establishment agents are propagating that Imran Khan is mad, he has committed blasphemy, he is misleading and corrupting the minds of youth etc. These are almost same nature of crimes that Socrates was charged with. So nothing to worry about….
Haraam is always haraam, even if it is common. Truth is always truth, even if everyone is liar.
Lastly, but certainly not comparable with above mentioned personalities, Our beloved Prophet PBUH was also charged with same nature of crimes by kafirs of Makkah. Kafirs used to call him majnu or mad (nauzbillah), sometimes they call him magician (nauzbillah), also charged him with impiety as Prophet propagated oneness of God and denied idols. Kafirs also propagated that Muhammad PBUH is misleading youth (nauzbillah) and asked people to be aware of his actions.
In reality Prophet PBUH was challenging the evil status quo. The evil status quo was based on idol worship. Prophet PBUH stood for justice and directed everyone to join the hands of truth.
I am still wondering what kind of puny Gods the corrupts believe in…. There is only one God who commands us to eradicate corrupts and impose justice on the earth.
