In ancient times women were slaughtered to please the Gods, it was believed that God when gets angry with men it stops rain and water in rivers. Most people fed on the river and seafood. It was also believed that all human miseries and shortcomings show that God is not happy and he needs sacrifice. So women were used to sacrificing so that God may become happy and remove the miseries of People. I was wondering why God needs women to be slaughtered. Actually, women are weak and vulnerable. Anyway, Thanks to Islam, replaced women with animals, so from now on animals are slaughtered instead of women. Islam held that there is no God who needs your sacrifice, its people who should be loved and obliged. God has nothing to do with your sacrifice, he will be happy only if you are good to your fellowmen.
In this capitalist era, there is so much economic disparity. The meaning of everything has been changed; we have even forgotten the real philosophy of sacrifice (Qurbani). The capitalist era has made us status-conscious. Our every act is a mere show-off. Even Qurbani is mostly done as a fashion and status symbol. A capitalist feels highness and when he slaughters an expensive animal. If capitalists are so God-fearing and spend millions on QURBANI then why they are reluctant to pay the wages of poor workers. Poors are committing suicide and we are spending millions on Qurbani. There is no purpose of QURBANI if you don’t pay salary to laborers. I am afraid QURBANI nowadays is nothing more than a show-off. I believe God is omnipotent and he will never accept QURBANI done by Sugar or cement mafias.
Hazrat Ibrahim (RA) slaughtered his own son whom he loved most. Do we really love the animal we slaughter? Do we really take care of animals? Many wealthy people even outsource or hire other persons to take care of and feed animals. Then what purpose is left for QURBANI if we have no sentiments for the animal? Animals are still animals, we don’t even care about human beings. Merely spending money is not the philosophy behind QURBANI. Although many poor get meat on Eid days but are they supposed to eat meat only on Eid days. Moreover, the real philosophy of Qurbani is to develop a habit of giving to others in everyday life, to sacrifice our own luxuries for others. Now a day we are reluctant to help others but we spend millions on Qurbani.
The real philosophy behind all religious rituals including SALAT, ZAQAT, SOAM, and QURBANI, Etc is to develop a system of social equality and wealth redistribution. It is similar to what ANSAARS did to MOHAJIREEN i.e. equal distribution of wealth. Truly speaking we are only caught up in rituals and have forgotten the real message and philosophy behind the rituals. We are only following the symbols and real Islamic practices have vanished.
