Imran Khan: The philosopher-king of Plato’s Republic

After a break of a few months, I am back, I really had no idea what to write about unless I studied Plato’s theory of an ideal state. I have tried to relate that theory with ongoing politics in Pakistan…

According to Plato, an ideal state is composed of three classes 1. Philosophers 2. Auxiliaries 3. Artisans. These three classes have a distinct soul. Philosophers are like the brain of society, they love knowledge and intellect, they don’t run after money or other material desires. They feel happy when they get more and more knowledge. According to Plato, the ruler of an ideal state should be from the philosophers’ class.

Auxiliaries are guardians and they are like the heart of a society, they have courage, spirit, and patriotism. They do not love material wealth, they feel pride and honor when they successfully defend their state. Auxiliaries perform best when they remain stick to their primary purpose i.e. defense.

Artisans are the stomach of an ideal state; they have a strong appetite, hunger, and desire for material things like wealth, money, and status, etc. Artisans are also necessary for an ideal state as they will play a great role in boosting the economy. All People belonging to small and large businesses fit in this class.

And a state performs best when these classes perform their duties within their particular domains. If the power to rule comes in the hands of artisans or auxiliaries instead of philosophers then it would be detrimental to the state’s health. If auxiliaries start to rule a state they will subconsciously develop some habits of artisans and they’ll start loving wealth; we can see in the case of Pakistan where auxiliaries have ruled for most of the time and developed DHAs and created super remunerations for the top Generals. Moreover, when Auxiliaries start to rule they also forget their primary purpose i.e. defense, and consequently, they lose the spirit and courage to fight; the fall of Dhaka 1971 is an example.

Moreover, when power to rule comes in the hands of artisans they will only focus on making more and more personal wealth, they will jeopardize defense and raise financial corruption. We can see the personal wealth accumulated by artisans has been multiplied since Pakistan has been ruled by artisans and Auxiliaries, not by philosophers. In my opinion, the fall of Dhaka in 1971 was a masterpiece of artisans-Auxiliaries hunger for power and wealth. SAR-E-MEHL of PPP leadership, London flats of PML(N) leadership, and countless other assets are an output of Artisans’ rule. In Pakistan, it seems like the Auxiliaries are the Guardians of artisans’ personal wealth only.

As per my limited research only Imran Khan fulfills the criterion of a philosopher-king, he has the knowledge, he has intellect, and he has no appetite for wealth or money. He didn’t build any SAR-E-MAHL-type assets but established social welfare institutions like Shaukat Khanam. In his 3 years rule, he did not initiate any DHAs for the rich but inaugurated economical homes for 10 million poor…and the list goes on.

As the soul of Auxiliaries and artisans in Pakistan has been polluted by the lust for power and wealth, they would make utmost efforts to bring Imran Khan down. The nexus of corrupt artisans and auxiliaries will take each step to fail the current government. They will use all propaganda agents, media, and other stratagems to defame the current leadership.
